How Much Is Tux Rental

Tuxedo rental costs will vary depending on the location, but the average cost in the U.S is $130-$200. This includes pants, a shirt, coat, vest, shoes, and cufflinks. If the groomsmen and groom are wearing similar attire, it is a smart idea to rent from the same place, as most tuxedo rental companies offer group discounts. Be sure to order your rental with plenty of time to spare to avoid rush fees!

How to Measure For Tuxedos

Finding the perfect tuxedo is very important. Making sure you get accurate measurements before the special day is crucial, you don’t want your suit to be too big nor too small! To make sure you get a suit that fits you, you’ll first need to measure your height and weight. Then, with a tape measure, measure your neck (add an extra inch to the number), sleeve, outseam and inseam, waist, and chest. All of these measurements will help your tailor know exactly what size will fit you best.

Tuxedo Styles

A black tuxedo is the typical, classic tuxedo for the groom; however, you can most definitely mix it up! Tuxedos come in many different colors and lapel styles. Your tuxedo style may depend on the formality of the wedding, so just make sure if you are a groomsman be sure to check in with the groom before making your final decisions as well.

Lapel Styles:
Notched - The most typical type. You see this style on tuxedos and suits. They are less traditional, and are not a formal lapel; however, are quite common for weddings. The lapel has a triangle indentation towards the collar.

Peaked -  The peak lapel is also pretty popular with V-shaped lapels pointing upwards. A peaked lapel is a perfect lapel for formal wear.

Shawl - Perfect for a slimmer body type. This is a round-shaped style and is for those who want a more uniquely styled suit.

Again, you can never go wrong with a classic black tuxedo with a peak lapel to make the suit more formal. It is simple and might not be the most thrilling, but you can add on accessories and a colorful tie!

What Color Tux Should I Get?

Make sure that as the groom, you stand out compared to your groomsmen. You will want to choose a different color shirt or at least tie to set you apart from the rest of the suits. It is currently a trend right now for groomsmen to wear light color shirts, and the groom a white one. First, you will need to discuss the wedding colors with the bride and talk about what colors you want the groomsmen to wear. The location and time of year will also influence the color tux you should get. Darker colors are perfect for colder months and lighter colors are great for warmer months of the year. Also, an outdoor wedding venue calls for lighter clothing, but an indoor wedding may call for darker, more traditional clothing. You can never go wrong going with a classic black suit.

When Should I Order a Tuxedo For a Wedding or Prom?

You will want to order your tuxedo with plenty of time to spare for a wedding, up to 2 months in advance. This allows time for the groomsmen and groom to try their suits on and make any final decisions before the special day. Think about the photos commemorating the special day, a suit will appear often within the photos and it is important to make sure time is considered. Often the suit orders can be delivered 2 weeks before the wedding if ordered more last minute. Many places in these COVID days can accept rental orders at least one week before an event. If you are renting a tuxedo for prom it is suggested to place your tuxedo rental around 16 days before your prom date to provide ample time in case things don’t fit correctly.

Who Pays For the Groomsmen Tuxedos?

Typically, just like the bridesmaids pay for their wedding attire, the groomsmen pay for their suit attire as well (unless otherwise noted). The groom and bride have the say in what style and color tuxedos to get and offer tips for the bridal party, but usually do not pay for all the attire as it can get quite expensive. If you are the groom reading this, be sure to let everyone know about this responsibility beforehand, so there is no confusion with what the expectations are!
